Abstract

In the first quarter of 2011, the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry¡¦s shipment volume did not live up to expectations, attributing to several factors. Factors included the error found in Intel Sandy Bridge chipset, dubbed the Cougar Point, in January 2011, which not only caused the recalls of Intel products from all distribution channels in the market but also led to shipment stoppages of contract manufacturers and branded vendors. In China, the working days were reduced during the Chinese Lunar New Year, thereby affecting the industry's shipment schedule as well. With the situation alleviating at the end of February 2011, the industry¡¦s shipment managed to resume back to the normal level before the first quarter of 2011 ended. In addition, the Chinese notebook PC market is still mainly dominated by Asian branded vendors such as Lenovo and Asus. Therefore, despite of the strong and stable market demand in China, shipments of non-Asia branded vendors did not grow as expected.
